Aquaculture Engineering

The Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture Engineering has been created due to a  national demand, just like the other courses. The geographic characteristics of our country, which has a long coast and 12% of the fresh water in the planet, makes Aquaculture a profession with great opportunities and potential. It is a higher education course which aims at developing professionals to work in the several areas of Aquaculture. This Bachelor’s Degree is an in-person, all-day course with the duration of 5 years, or 4.662 class hours which are divided between theoretical and practical classes.
The abilities which are developed in this course create a general education which provide students with the possibility of working in different areas. These professionals can work with several activities, mainly, with the promotion of the aquacultural practice, from producing, growing, processing to distributing the final product. However, if these students expand their knowledge in the field of cultivation, engineering, economics and management, they will be able to work in several positions which have been appearing, or even become employers in their own business.
Professionals of this area meet current global needs concerning environmental issues, after all they are prepared to develop projects and techniques to sustainably use aquaculture products. Thus, these engineers can project aquaculture farms and also develop techniques that can increase high-quality production and productivity with advanced technology.
Students of this course have a great and varied education in several areas and so they finish the course with conditions of working with cultivation and improvement of aquaculture species, development of Technologies, rational use of natural resources, feeding, nutrition and diagnosis of diseases regarding aquaculture species, constructions for aquaculture, development of projects with technical and economic feasibility, assistance, advisement and consulting, management of companies, execution and inspection of related technical services, expert analysis, evaluation, arbitration, technical reports and opinions, among other activities.
