Biotechnology
Bachelors in Biotechnology work with techniques that make it possible to use live organisms or part of them in product production or modification, in plant or animal genetic improvement and in the development of microorganisms for specific purposes, such as food and beverage production; e.g. dairy products, beer and wine. Professionals in the field of Biotechnology have multidisciplinary characteristics, because they understand about Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Production and Computing. They can work in several areas such as Genetics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Genetic Engineering, among others. Job opportunities include technical and management work in the food industry, in agro-industrial businesses (distilleries, yeast, enzyme and amino acid production). Graduates from this course can work with food quality control, micromanipulation of animals, plants and transgenic microorganisms, consulting services for companies and environmental control agencies, research and teaching in public or private universities or institutions. They can also work in the environmental area with the development of projects which preserve environmental quality through the treatment of biological waste and effluents.
