Teaching Degree in Language/brazilian Sign Language

The creation of the Teaching Degree Course in Language – Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) aims at broadening, in the long term in Dourados and the surrounding cities, the development of professionals who have a strong educational background, full domain of the language and its cultures to work as teachers of Brazilian Sign Language as first and second language in schools and other institutions, thus contributing to the development of a real bilingual education in our country, as provided in Decree 5.626/2005. The job market for graduates of this course has promising characteristics in the face of the need for meeting the requirements of public policies regarding inclusion and accessibility, in educational and other social contexts. This is a distance course which happens through a learning platform called MOODLE and includes in-person meetings. Students are admitted by entrance examination. Priority will be given to deaf applicants.
The course of Language – Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) is composed by a basic core (660 hours), a specific core (1020 hours), a pedagogical core (690 hours) and activities related to undergraduate studies: Supervised Internship (420 hours) and Complementary Activities (200 hours).
It is important to highlight that the course is not linked to the Open University of Brazil – UAB, after all it is an institutional distance course and it is in line with the philosophy of UFGD that is expressed in its Institutional Development Plan (PDI), which involves promoting the respect towards diversity, appreciating human beings in their singularities and their right to freedom and to quality education. The course will provide students with information, abilities and competences which are associated with this dimension of knowledge and this will help their teaching practice, giving them grounding principles of interdisciplinarity, contextualization, democratization, social relevance and usefulness, ethics and affective sensitivity and aesthetics.
